Meet the Teachers

Monday, August 24, 2009 was Meet the Teacher Day

So we arrived to Creekside Community Church (a wonderful church that allowed us to use their facilities for our first week of school, without charge to Cornerstone) to meet Evan's Second Grade teachers and Ashlyn Grace's K-4 teachers. (anxiety and excitement filled the air) Ashlyn Grace was super chatty in the car on the way there...then we arrived...and she lost her voice! :O

Here are Big Brother and Sister in her "temporary" First Class! She looks super at ease with "Ev" as she's calling him these days.

Then I persuaded her to stand close enough to her teacher Mrs. Nick and assistant teacher Mrs. Guerry to take a quick snap shot. Can you see the anxiety on her face??? (Thank goodness she agreed to take her index finger out of her mouth long enough for the picture)

I met another Mom in the class with a little girl and I tried to get Ashlyn Grace to meet/acknowledge her new classmate-to-be, but she would have nothing to do with it. My prompting was received with "No Mom, I don't want to meet anyone new" (while clinging to my leg). We hung out in the room long enough for her to show Evan all around and find the door to the attached playground. You know there are priorities in K-4...a good playground is a must!
Then we headed over to the "temporary" Second Grade room to meet Mrs. Nelson and her assistant Mrs. Lowe. Evan had something in his right hand...so decided to shake with his left...hum...lots to learn in the Second Grade!

Then on the way to the car Mommy was able to BE in a picture with her two school-goers. Good thing to catch a shot without any tears...(saved those for the First Day).

Look Who's Walking...

Post date: Saturday, August 8, 2009

Two weeks into Turnover (the 30+ days that John works EVERYday and typically doesn't get home until after the Flock has gone to bed, or RIGHT at bed time). Anyway, we're in the midst of Turnover and on this Saturday, Daddy HAPPENED to be home right at dinner time. (What an awesome treat for us!) I guess Braxton was SO happy to see Daddy that he decided that it was as good a time as any to show off. He pulled himself up at the coloring book drawer and made his maiden voyage on feet - right over the Daddy!

Then he repeated his new found trick to Big Brother Evan (how sweet is this)

And again (in our bathroom after MANY failed attempts to catch one on my cell phone, because it's easier to email that way), here is Braxton SO proud of his bog boy walking! He was officially walking ONE DAY before he was 10 months old.

Oddly enough, he didn't walk at ALL the following day and only a few times the second day. But within a few days he was a walking maniac. Today (8/30) he was able to stand up without "pulling himself up" on anything AND walk, stop, pick up a toy, return upright and continue with his toddling. Someone please tell me how to slow this growing up thing down!?!?

Ashlyn Grace gets a new do

Post Date: Friday, August 7, 2009

FINALLY the day as arrived. Months ago I started "prompting" Ashlyn Grace that getting her hair cut would be a great idea...cute...new and easier to brush. Our now 4 year 7 month was digging in her heals the whole time and with Daddy in her corner I decided to throw in the towel. THEN we went on the playdate mentioned in the previous post and wa-la, Ashlyn Grace gets in the car and says she wants to get her hair cut like Evan's friend Mia. (yes- just what I was waiting to hear) So, we made an appointment (all the while I was hoping that she didn't change her mind or become swayed by Daddy's desire to keep her golden locks long). The morning of her big day here she was...She was excited as we loaded in the car and arrived at the salon. Keep in mind this was going to be her first hair CUT ever, with only 3 or 4 prior TRIMS. SO- it's her turn and she's ready to climb up in the chair...

Here we go...

Check out all the hair on the floor

Do you think she is happy to be losing the locks...

Oh my- I think she aged 5 years with this cut. Daddy's Little Girl...doesn't look so little anymore.

Of course Daddy told her he loved it...but he's secretly waiting for her hair to quickly grow back!

The First of Many

Welcome to the Fleming Flock Blogspot. This blog is dedicated to our little Fledglings which make it easy to find things to talk about. Everyday there is something cute, funny, monumental, or that brings me to tears with the Fleming Flock. Check out the summaries on the left side: you will see that we have four active children ranging from ages 7 years to almost 1 year, three boys and one little princess. They have 4 distinct personalities and a variety of likes and dislikes. "Everyday is an adventure" around here.
SO I am going to have some post-dated blogs because the posting date is not something that you can change. On July 31st we had a play date at San Felasco Park. If I had planned for a
photo session I would have dressed them a little cuter. But as it worked out, we were there a few minutes before our friends showed up, and I actually got some great pictures of them just hanging out.
Braxton LOVES to swing!!!
